I would like to purchase the KATO GS4, but I have found there is no Modern railfan paint scheme. Does anyone know will this paint scheme come later in KATO?? Its really a nice and relatively cheap engine.
As far as I know the Current Paint scheme on 4449 is the same as it was as the train is modeled. I’m not an SP expert, but to my untrained eye they look the same
The modern paint scheme is almost identical to the in service pictures except Doyle has moved the number boards to the side of the smokebox casting up front like the 4449 was wehen it was new. Doyle has moved them from the orginal location to about midway on the skyline casting for several years to duplicate different era’s in the GS4 past. The GS4’s had the white walls on the drivers when delivered from Lima but this was not the practice at SP after they were shopped.
I can’t be sure what version Kato is making until we see them. The price is right.
The road name originally was in small letters when new. Southern Pacific Lines. The Lines was dropped about 1946 and the paint today is much the same except for the location of the number boards.

Any body know whcich can fit in 11 radius or more ? I hope Kato GS-4 fit in 9.75 radius for my layout or not
