KCS late 70's diesels

I got a few questions about KCS in the late 70’s. When did they repaint their GP30’s into white ghosts? Aslo when did they get there GP38’s, or GP40’s? Did they have dynamic brakes? Were they -2’s?

HI i would do a search on KCS on the web and see what you can dig up also ask your locol MR clubs they might if not i can ask the club that is in my area because that all that they model in KCS and some Southern.

I have been looking this morning and it’s kinda hard to find info on the subject, but I will keep looking. Ethan aka railfanfromiantha from youtube

The first few white knights started to show up in the early 1970s. I have photos from Hunt Yard in Greenville, TEXAS showing mixed consists of the old red paint units running with the new white painted units.

Here is a set of four eastbound GP30s at Hunt Yard

KCS rosters are here http://www.kcshs.org/schedule/subs/images/rosters/locos.htm

All KCS GP38s were Dash 2s, KCS had both GP40s and GP40-2s. The roster explains both new and used diesels acquired by KCS.

I moved east from Kansas in 1976, but can offer the following:

I have photos of multiple KCS units in white as of March & April, 1975… it was an established paint scheme by that time. I also have a photo of GP30 4102 still in (faded) red as of May, 1975. EMD switchers in Kansas City were found in the red, the black, and the white paint schemes as of Oct. 1975.

The GP30’s were delivered in Red(early 60’s), KCS started painting engines in the WHITE paint scheme some time later in the 60’s. Check out the following web link:

I think they went to the GREY paint scheme in the late 70’s/early 80’s. The folks at the KCS historical society should be able to give you complete information:

The white scheme started in the first quarter of 1966 when #600 the first SD-40 was delivered. The first company unit to get the white paint was GP-30 #109 (later #4109) in January of 1969 followed by two E-8/9’s #26 and #27 in June of that year.
