According to this on KCS’s website, KCS is procuring locos powered by EMD’s 710ECO. I guess this would be the 8 cylinder 2,200hp 710ECO since the article mentions GP22ECO and SD22ECO, which are likely rebuilds of GP38/40s and SD40-2s.
I note that the page mentions GP40s and SD40s as core units, I wonder if the mother/slug sets are for yard service only or if they will be road slugs a la CSX? I wonder if they are considering remanufacturing the GP40-2Ls? I would think the widecabs would have to be removed and replaced…
