Kids Off School! Put'em To Work.

Gave her the glue gun, a strip of wood to glue them to and a bag of 10 bazillion unpainted figures someone gave me. That will keep her busy for a while.[(-D].

In charge of the child labour dept.[:-,]

Nice to see the young ones getting interested.

Have a granddaughter that if she touches a figure, the paint falls off, then the rest of the layout falls on top of the paint chips. (Her name is not Grace.)

Have fun,

Richard

I don’t have any slaves ‘er’ kids to help with the layout work anymore. Never had any of my own but helped raise three. The youngest is eighteen and the oldest is in his late twenties. My niece is near her mid twenties now. They all helped out at one time or other. The youngest still does when he has time.

I am always delighted when one or both of the kids get involved. It makes my day, big time.[:D]

I wish I still had eyes that good, and the steady hand to boot.

Not bad, this is the first batch off the wood strip.

Great idea with the figures!
Always cringed at the idea of painting a lot of them, so why not have the kids do it!

My 9-year-old daughter has already gotten handy with the soldering iron:

& my 5-year-old son had fun with the toothpick CA’ing the windows:

So why not paint up a population!

Remember: if they work for someone else, it’s Child Labor; if they work for you, it’s quality family time!

Great idea Brent, I wonder if I can get a 14 and 16 year old to do that. Hmmmmm.

Excellent.

After reading the various comments on this thread, I have decided to teach my 2-year old granson how to use a reciprocating saw so that he can help me dismantle a part of my layout. [(-D]

Because all the flooding here in the begining of September took many kids off from school, they will have shortened vacations allowing for snow days still to come.

I have no pain-in-the-neck-rug-rats of my own thank goodness. Nor do i have any neicves or nephews nor are we likely to, either. I lack patience to deal with them.

But,you have a GREAT idea…if they are busy and doing somehting constructive they are less likely to be a pain or a “bored” kid.

I WILL have to keep this trick in mind should I ever have kids to pay attention to.

All my 4 year old granddaughter wants to do is run trains…

Handles the throttle quite well, I might add!

howmus,

She’s started and as long as she doesn’t run the trains so fast that they fly off the tracks you have someone to groom into a productive partner.

My grandchildren want to run things full out, hit the wall that is 3’ from the layout would be their idea of running trains. Will keep trying, but it is difficult on a part time basis.

Enjoy her she will grow up fast on you, then there’ll be other men in her life.

Have fun,

Richard

On the night of that first date, when you’re standing at the door with your shot gun in hand, the only question has to be “are you a train guy”[(-D]

Brent[C):-)]

What if the kid’s answer is “Yes” ?

Rich

Well then their entire first date will take place down in the Trainroom of course. Why would a train guy want to go anywhere else?[:-,]

Brent[W]

What if the kid’s answer is “No” ?

Well then he can date her until Christmas, at which time I will take stock of how many “train” items he bought for me off my Christmas toy list. At that time I will decide if the relationship is worth continuing. [G]Brass???,[G]Sunset Selkirk,[G]Division point C.P. Pacific…etc.

Brent[B]

LOL, I was tempted to keep this going by asking what if the kid refused to answer, but I will cease and desist at this point.

Rich

LOL, actually she is very careful and knows that Grandpa’s trains should go SLOW! [swg] Only trouble she has is remembering to throw the turnouts. No other derailments ever. She stops the passenger train any place she thinks someone should get off or on the train… Not bad for a 4 year old

Teenagers working! Oh, my, that’s precious. How’s life in Fantasy Land? (Yes, I have one of my own).

My youngest does very well:

Hard to believe that picture is 3 years old now. My biggest mistake was helping him start his own layout. Now he won’t help me on mine any more. [:(]
