Kit created 45 years ago and ready for another 45 years

Hello, I am happy to show images of two kits.

I acquired these recently via Ebay and they were fairly complete. The previous owner did a very good work with them. I noticed that the sand pole was missing so I scratch built a new pole and added a sand hose to it. I guess it was my first small built from scratch part that was needed.

I left the bases bare as they will be covered in scenery. There was a horrible “Orange Fire Red” color on the raw plastic used in the kit, I decided to put some Floquil Weathered Black down and clean up the roofs. The entire refirbushing and repainting process took a week.

I left most of the structures untouched as the original builder did a very fine job and I saw no reason to change it. Dullcote will be applied. I posed a BLI NW-7 B&O switcher near it as it will be it’s main service area.

On one of the footings that was painted aged concrete from floquil was a molded trademark “Revell Inc. 1960” I did have the orginal instruction manual and box from the purchase. So without further ado, I decided to declare this service area ready for another 45 years.

Enjoy!

It might well be that Con-Cor continues to offer that same kit – I think they acquired most of the old Revell train tooling

Great modeling job![:D]

I remember buying one of those kits when they first came out in 1960…I also got one of Revell’s 2 stall engine house as well as the interlocking tower and yard office.I still have some of the Revell’s figures…[:D]
Dave is quite correct…Con-Cor did buy the Revell line of buildings…

I still have my old Revell 2-stall engine house (though one of the stacks seems to be missing), plus their passenger station, freight station and yard office (a really cool old wood caboose). They were really good kits. I think most of them are still available from Con-Cor, today. Back in the 1960’s the Revell structure kits were a ‘must’ for your MR, the detail was considered exceptional (it’s still really good).

Very nice. Looks like I was right there!
