Kudos to Eric White's stand on "AI" in Model Railroader!

Mr. White’s editorial in the latest MR states that the mag will not knowingly use “AI” except where specifically identified.

I urge you all to read it, and appreciate the wisdom and courage it took to write it!

I agree. It was a thoughtful and well-reasoned approach to an emerging technology.

I haven’t read it (because I haven’t gotten to the store yet ) but I pretty much agree that the only “ai” that belongs in layout photos is maybe what was used to make miniature posters, signs and decals for buildings and such. Maybe some embellishments or graphics for the articles but that’s about all. Advertising is a gray area but I didn’t like it when Lionel turned catalog images into pseudo paintings back in the 90s. Paintings were fine back in the 50s because they were accurate representations of products. But the majority of the ai I’ve been seeing is crap.

Agree. This issue was taken up by members of the4 Trains forum in past. Examples of the laughable absurdities on rail photos were displayed.
