Here’s a railcam in La-Plata Missouri that has a lot of BNSF traffic going through it daily. If you look on the radar map La-Plata is 5 to 10 miles south, southeast of Kirksville.
I just watched the westbound Southwest Chief pull up to the Amtrak station at 8:25 PM, about 19 minutes late. Lots of people got on- it finally got rolling again at 8:32.
Incidentally, it appears that the Depot Inn cameras on top are labeled bass-ackwards. The one on the right is pointing east, not west.
I have just started watching the Railcam at 5:53AM and will tell you what will come through here today as best as I can do. Right now I don’t know how long I will watch this.
Right now if you look at the railcam at 9:30PM there are these 3 guys since about 9:15PM standing there and they keep walking on the tracks. Now that’s trespassing, right in front of the station.
I’m sure this behavior is a violation of Amtrak safety standards. If there is a station attendant at LaPlata, he or she isn’t doing their job. At my hometown station, the attendant keeps everyone in the station,or on the parking lot side of the building until the train is nearly there.
I just saw the SW Chief come and go. It was about five minutes late. The depot platform is lit at night – but I don’t know if the station has an attendant or not. - a.s.
