LaHood to leave Obama Administration
I don’t really know why, but suddenly former Illinois governor “License For Bribes” George Ryan comes to mind. LaHood, like His Oneness and George Ryan, is a product of the Chicago machine. We will know for certain when the proverbial brake assembly falls off at some future date at the worst possible moment.
I know Ray La Hood’s departure got you all excited. That’s too bad. Ray l;a Hood has been a real champion for passenger rail. At least he wasn’t beholden to the highway lobby and the oil companies.
Someone said of LaHood, “He’s not as dumb as he looks.” I say: he couldn’t be!
I respect Mr. La Hood. He’s one Republican who seems to “get it” on passenger rail. I am sorry to see him leave the administration. I wonder why he’s going. Haven’t seen a reason given in news reports.
I think it’s not really surprising that Secretary LaHood has decided to leave. With Republican governors like Florida’s Rick Scott refusing to get onboard with high-speed rail projects Ray must have felt like a red-headed step-child, disrespected by his own party.
If it’s the best job he’s ever had, then why is he leaving? Maybe his successor will be against HSR and pull the plug on the California “boondoggle”. And he/she can scrap Amtrak’s long distance trains while their at it and put that money to better use in short distance corridors.
Jeff: Don’t count your chickens before they hatch! What if that brake assembly ends up being a vehicle YOU are travelling in?
Especially if it was your own vehicle you were driving?
La Hood did an excellent job, a one-hundred-eighty degree of difference than the toll road hog and dirt bike queen Mary Peters, whom his predecessor was from the Bush administration.
I am sorry to see him go. He has been a solid supporter of passenger rail. Sec. LaHood reminded me of former Amtrak president, David Gunn, who pretty much said what he thought particularly when dealing with certain congressmen.
