Last Night's Tornadoes in the Streator/Dwight, IL Area

In reading up on this new story, apparently a freight train was derailed a mile west of Dwight. I’m assuming this is on the BNSF Transcon. Does anyone have any further info?

Correction, this would be UP’s line from Joliet that eventually becomes the Metra Heritage Corridor into Chicago.

I tried making the link hot…apparently without much success.

Might it not be more likely to find freight on the NS line that goes east and west through Dwight and connects with the BNSF Transcon at Streator? I’d almost think the old Alton line would be considered as running nearly north-south through Dwight, and can’t picture anything on this line as being considered “west” of the city.

Sounds like the Toledo area got hit with some serious damage as well. Up here, we barely got a tenth of an inch of rain last night.

Live right there in Streator and the BNSF did a full stop til the storm passed and the line inspected for debris. Back running at normal.

It could also be NS’ (CR-PC-NYC) Kankakee Beltline running E-W into Streator. At least the wind farm we’re expanding there in Nevada Twp. is in the appropriate spot.

(Edit: from Rodney’s post below, that piece of railroad is tangent for miles out there until you get near Streator, they aren’t gonna have any problem putting that track back. We just spent 3 months with that railroad and also retraced the abandoned/redundant C&A/GM&O /ICG branch parallel to and south of the Beltline that also went to Streator and then SW to Peoria.)
