Late '60s NS freight car roster

Does anyone have or know where I can find a roster of NS freight cars? Specifically the 50’ Combination Door boxcar and the ACF 70 ton 2 bay covered hopper since kits for these are currently in production. Thanks in advance.

Matt

Matt,

There is a book recently published by Garrigues House called “The Original Norfolk Southern Railway 1883 to 1974”. The authors are Robert C. Reisweber and Dalton P. “Billy” McDonald. There is no roster per se in there, but they do describe the cars you are interested in. The boxcars were used for paper service, there were 250 of them numbered from 1201 to 1450.They were built in the late 1950’s. There were also 60 similar cars (1800-1859) which also had four roof hatches so they could carry loose phosphates from Lee Creek.

There were only five of the ACF two bay covered hoppers, they were purchased in 1952 for cement service.

Hope this helps![:)] John

It helps a great deal. Thanks!
