Jeff Carlson, would you know of a more exact footprint dimension for this station?
I’m really interested in making a model of this station for my ‘Santa Fe’ base on my new dbl-deck layout.
I just really like the looks of this structure. [Y]

He is the person who signed that photo above (and a number of other such photos of that station).
I also thought I saw his name mentioned on some model train related discussions/forums.
Of course it doesn’t have to be a reply from him, as there was some plastic model kits sold by Walthers,…and i believe some card-stock models at one time as well.

Might be worthwhile to invest in a nice, hardbound book on the subject.

Thanks Ed for that link/idea. I ordered one of those books (used one).
As I played with a mock up yesterday I discovered I will like make a few digressions from the original model (dimensions, back side view, etc), but this book should help with some of the details when I get around to making a better foamboard model.
I think I remember seeing one of those Walther’s kits up for sale, BUT it was priced like a rare gem. And now that I started my mock-up I’ve discovered I may need to make mine slightly thinner,…and possibly a differenty viewing angle.

I believe if I were to scratchbuild an LAUPT I would look at “Genesis” ceiling material as a substrate.

I brought home some scraps of this stuff from work and have used it in several areas of the layout. I believe it would represent the white stucco look of the main station building. It is stable and easy to cut, maybe just a tad brittle so you have to be careful with thinner sections. You could easily double it for thicker wall sections.
Also, IMHO, when it comes to the roof don’t be tempted to buy the vacuum-formed “Spanish tile” sheets. They have very little relief. There are suppliers of ABS molded tile sheets that, to me anyway, have a much more defined profile.

WOW, thanks for those links. I noticed that the ceiling tile material is a PVC product. I’ve become addicted to the expanded foam PVC product,…so PVC is interesting.
As I’ve mentioned I plan on having a model of that train station on my upper deck, just adjacent to my west coast container yard. So in preparation for planning the yard I felt I needed to do a mock-up of that station to see how much room it was going to consume.

Walthers made a model of this station, but it is no longer sold, and the ones on the resale market are ridiculous in price. So I am going to have to build one of my own from foamboard likely. I got the footprint dimensions from Walthers, but they are NOT so good.
Here is my first attempt at just a real basic mock-up.
I’m not even sure it is the correct proportions as the only height measurement was 12" for the tower by Walthers, so I had to guesstimate the others.
Here is where it is intended to fit,…in this corner, and adjacent to the container yard.
I was playing with this ‘image’ this morning and decided to flip the station end-for-end. Regrettable I had not provided wall sides and windows for the backside of my mock-up. But I believe I like it this orientation better.
I also moved my SF engine servicing building forward so the tracks go thru the building,… and out the back
view block of some sort on left side of that station,…tall enough to hide a dbl-stack and auto cars
Perhaps a display piece outside that terminal for the passenger’s memories,…an old time steam engine mixed into a ‘park scene’.
I was looking at the ceiling material you mentioned and took notice, “they are manufactured from cellular PVC with both smooth and textured surfaces available”. Looks promising to build the walls of the station out of.
BTW I got my book a few days ago in the mail, but I’ve been busy with the container yard and logging areas.
