Hi, i an expanding my 4x8 layout to the MAX size, 4x11. I need some help on what to do with the 4x3 section I will soon have. I model conrail in toe 1980s. I was thinkind an engine service facility? I thought it would be interesting to operate. Maby a little yard?
You could add a switch track on the top right after that curve before the gravel mine main switch. If not then on the bottom where the lake is located.
Thanks, there is a mountain in between the gravel plant tracks and the mainline. I thought about switching it off on the mainline where it splits through the mountains. Then tunneling through the mountains? I thought that would be cool.
Well if you are going to cut through the mountain.
you might as well move the end of the loop out as far as it can go.
Remember to build acces into the new tunnel.
I would also look at adding another passanger depot a freight shed and team track to increase operations and perhaps a very small loco facility in one of the corners
As the layout is now bigger see if you can upscale the scenery in places to get more varied hights and a bit of realism my memory of the layout pictured is that it was fairly flat
I don’t remember there being much in the way of buildings so see what you can do in the way of representing more of the population the railroad serves don’t over do it crowding the place out with structures.
