Layout in process

Hi,

Here are some pics on my layout that is in progress. These pictures are of the top peninsula on this three level layout. It will be 40 cm between levels and the house is 8*4 meters.

Here is a picture of my first section of easy spline. I laid all 5 pieces at once and I thought that it was real easy. A great method for laying track if you ask me!

Very nice to read that you like the spine roadbed method, it looks good. Did you do these splines yourself?

Hi,

Yes I made them my self. I used a table saw. It was quite easy, we where two guys doing them. Alone it would be impossible. The small difference between the splines was easily taken care of. I fixed that before the glue set and then I used a wood rasp to take out the small problems when the glue had set.

I think that easy spline is perfect. I do not think that the speed issue is a problem. 2,4 meters a day is fast enough. I will do it as my bench work continues so that I keep up with that. That way the speed isn’t an issue.

I will have to order the track in a few weeks. I will get Peco from England since it’s so cheap and very high quality. Just like ME track it doesn’t shift after it’s formed. First I was going with ME track but I haven’t been able to find a cheap source. Suggestions are welcome.

Magnus,

This is a good shop in England for Peco code 83 track.

This is where I’m getting it from! I’ve already contacted them about shipping and got an estimate. The thing is, the first 100 pieces cost 50 pounds to ship. But if I order all the 300+ that I need all at once the shipping is only about 70 pounds. So I will make one large order and get it all at once!

I was looking for a potential source of cheap ME track. But thanks for the link I apreciate it. It took me a while to find that place at first.

Hi,

I’ve done some more work. Including placing the first industry. A nice good old mine coalmine. I also started making the mountain from which the coal will come from. I did two easy spline sections today and I’m done with that(almost) on the peninsula. This goes faster then I thought. Soon I will hit the helix and that should keep me busy for a few weeks!

I use nothing but Peco track because of it’s quality. Code 100, code 75, and 9 MM 30 inch HO scale narrow gauge. The problem in the US is that it is not cheap here due to the weak dollar.

Here is an update for today. 5 meters of easy spline istalled today and some aditional benchwork.
