Here is the trackplan of my layout. All track was hand laid using code 70 (branch lines) or code 83 (mainline) track. Turnouts (27x pl) were hand-laid in place for smoother track flow. Access to hidden trackage can be reached from under the benchwork (open grid) or from behind the backdrop at window recess area (REF: track “A” on plan). The layout was started in 1991. It contains 3 reverse loops, making for interesting operation. The layout has undergone two major renovations. These renovations were primerily with scenery or structures. The golden spike was laid on Feb 2003. However, I don’t consider the layout finished as there is always something new for me to tinker with.

p.s portrait pictures don’t enlarge on the forum.
Ken.
Boy! That looks like a lot of work. Good track plan!

Classic design. Good round and round and wonderful opperations. Plenty of place for those wonderful scenes. My kind of layout and 15 years ahead of me. Makes me wish I did not take 25 years off.
ah ha ! i wasn’t far off in my guess about your layout being the world’s best detailed 4x8 . it’s actually 2 extended 4x8s with a small section joining them .
nice job of making a fairly simple track plan look like a basement empire . keep the photos coming [:)]
This plan is the perfect example of “you don’t need a basement empire to have a great model railroad”.
Bob, I’d say that it’s pretty safe to say that many people have greatly enjoyed your layoput pics. Seeing the track plan really puts it all in perspective. We can see how all the pieces fit together now.
There’s something that is always refreshing about seeing a simple, well thought out plan.
Thanks for sharing Bob!
Bob,
The pictures make the layout seem much larger. But I have a question. In the area where the track connecting with “B” crosses under the track connecting with “A”, there is only 2" of clearance, according to the plan. Can you really get trains to cross with that little difference in elevation?
Bob Hayes
Bob Hayes:
Good catch. That was a type-o on my part. The separation between A and B where they cross should have read 3 inches in lieu of 2. In other words, 9 inches on the elevation plan. I’ll need to go back and correct that on my master copy.
Thanks for pointing that out.

I like that track plan! I like the fact that you incorparated a walk in space so the track does not run in a big loop. I think that adds a lot of scenic interest.
Well, not like anyone cares, but this is my 1000th post! Yahoooo!!!
