Layout Video

Here’s a video of my Upstate South Carolina-themed layout in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pxLD0xazw4

I hope you Enjoy!

Nice video. Nice layout. I like the effect of the night shots, but there is a little much of them. They don’t show off your layout as well as the day time portions do.

Thanks for sharing,

Richard

GP9,

I enjoyed watching your vid and liked how you added the jazz tune to set the night scene mode as well as the way you transitioned from scene-to-scene.

Also enjoyed your thorough scenery work and picked up some ideas, especially with the way you blended the different types of grasses and your rock face work. Good weathering on those industrial structures.

Respectfully, I hope you’re not offended with these critques, but in looking at the interlocking/switch tower building at time sequences 5:05 and 10:11, the light seems to be bleeding through the bricks from the interior. Consider painting the interior walls black or gluing black construction paper on the interior walls as that would eliminate the bleedthrough, instantly.

Consider weathering the bridge behind the tower with a thinned wash of white or gray to age its appearance. Imho, a solid black bridge stands out whearas a weathered black bridge would blend in naturally and realistically in a model railroad scene quite well.

Thanks for posting that vid

I liked it great video, music was perfect for it[:)]

Thanks for the kind words everybody.

Antonio,

I like your idea for weathering the bridge with a white wash but have never tried anything like that. How would I go about it?

To make a wash just put a drop or two of white craft paint in a cup of water and brush on. Remember it is better to have to do your wash several times than to get it too white on the first try.

I would suggest you find some plastic of similar color (a sprue piece) and try your wash on it first. since your bridge is already in place. Easier to modify things before doing a final application and having to do a major correction.

Good luck,

Richard

I’m always interested in the music people choose to put as background for their layout videos The Bon Iver tune was especially fitting. My son is supposed to be burning his new CD for me. Great job all around.

i liked the night scenes. Can always find daytime videos of layouts, but I’m a definite night fan.

GP9,

Cowman’s approach is on target. Weathering is something you take your time with and enjoy as you progress.

Here’s a thread I responded to a few years back with a simple technique I use on rolling stock when I don’t feel like firing up the airbrush.
