Layout visit: Kent Johnsons O scale Canadian Pacific

Kent - I enjoyed touring your O-scale layout. The size and detail of the equipment is always impressive. I find it interesting how you have effectively compressed the scenery into realistic representations of real life places. As a retired teacher I feel competent in marking your homework assignment with an A+. I also enjoyed the shots of your fine looking dog. Thanks for sharing with your viewers.

Kent,
Fantastic layout. Very refreshing to see someone take a three rail “toy” train and put in the time and effort to make it as realistic as any HO layout. Keep us posted on your progress and keep up the fine work both at home and on the job!

Fabulous indeed! Great looking layout! Even more stunning as it’s O Gauge but you’d be hard pressed to tell that with the weathering and well hidden 3rd rail. Very nice work!

Kent, really nice layout and video. Good to see your son onvolved, too! Your layout is a nice blend of good modeling, fun and creativity.

Kent, I really enjoyed seeing a more detailed video of your layout. As a modern modeler myself, your techniques and thought process are, and have been, an inspiration!

Ken, very nice layout, with a lot of neat ideas. I really like the idea of using the flex pipe as a tunnel liner, I’ve seen this on the prototype MGA’s Washington Secondary. Your scenery looks fantastic, thank you for sharing your layout with us and keep up the great work.

Thanks for sharing your awesome layout Kent! Looks great!

Pleased to see a scale 3 rail layout featured on MRPlus. As an HO modeller who also started into scale 3 rail, I am encouraged by Kent’s excellent efforts. Validated the approach that I am taking in the construction of a series of Pennsylvania mountain branch lines on the PRR of the 1950’s. Looking forward to future visits to Kent’s CPR. Thanks, Doug

Nice work, Kent! I really appreciate the linear approach to your layout design. I used to model 3 rail “O” scale but space in an issue now. Rolling stock & scenery looks really good. Keep up the good work!

Great layout Kent. Makes me envious. Hope you will show it again when all is completed. (If like me, it’s never completed.

A great layout!!
I think that it would be fun to put a camera in the lead unit of the business train.
Looking forward to the next installment and progress you will have made.

Kent, Three years ago Ruth and I traveled on the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff to Vancouver and your layout video reminded me of the spectacular country of the Canadian Rockies. Thank you for your layout visit.

Great to see an O scale layout featured. This one projects many of the qualities that are typically found on 2 rail layouts. A real pleasure to view, and Kent’s easy going personality makes you feel like a welcome guest.

dear kent,

Very nice, Kent!

Love It! Anything in 1/48, there is a reason they call O scale the king of model trains, and yes I know it’s not P-48 but still very cool! wish I had the room to build in O scale, nice work Kent, lucky for you your son seems to be happy crawling around also…

Superb layout Kent. Love it.

Great work kent! I too model the Canadian west but in 2 rail o scale. Working with O scale for 35 years and currently building in a 34 by 54 area. Did you get one of the 3rd rail Canadians? Beautiful sets. Like your idea of doing a section of the canyon now that CP and CN share the region opens up ability to have the best of both worlds, remember to keep that area looking hot and dry. Pines can be made from balsa and painted weeds. Keep the rocks a light gray and sand color with lots of loose rock down the roadbed embankments to wards the river. Use raw umber and burnt seina along the top roof of the slide shed it will give it a rusty appearance. Your equipment will look great passing through the scene. I added a looped tape with flange squeal sounds around my Rogers pass area it really adds a lot.
Keep up the good work we ll stay in touch.

Layout’s looking great Kent! Can I have my station back? (seriously, glad to see your getting some use out of it!) Marty
