Learning to convert older brass to DCC

Hello: I want to learn how to convert HO brass locomotives to DCC. I’m in the Washington, DC, area — northern Virginia. I’m quite willing to pay for personal instruction. Youtube videos and so forth leave me cold. (I finally gave up on them when I wanted to learn how to cook well, and attended an in-person culinary school.) I’m an electronics neophyte. Retired Army. Lots of good information here. Might be getting a little dated but, a good start.

Hello Jeff. I’m guessing you would need someone local. Maybe someone at a local hobby shop can come up with names or ideas.

In our local hobby shop (in Canada), we have a “pro” that does work on locos right in the open, in the hobby shop. Maybe you can find someone like that in a hobby shop in your vicinity, and ask him to shadow him as he does work on your locos, or someone elses. Offering him money for it should sweeten him up :slightly_smiling_face:. You would need to come up with some kind of offer for his professional time as shadowing does slow down the professional (I know it does in my line of business). I’m guessing something like $25-$50 an hour, excluding his regular rate of working on your or other locos. I think 3 hours would give you plenty in terms of learning.

Thank you, E-C; he does provide thorough steps!

Thank you, snjroy; I am looking around in this area. I may form a brass SIG in the NMRA . . .
