I model N-scale and was looking at switching to dcc. In my searching it seems to me for the price that Lenz is the way to go.
The question is, is it worth it to get set 100 with the push buttons that I dont like. It looks to me like I can and most people probably do use decoder pro and customize the cv’s thru a cumputor.
Does this sound like a reasonable assesment or am I missing something?
If you like knob control the 90 may be best for you. I have the 100 but also have an Atlas Commander (made by Lenz) which gives me a knob throttle when I want it. I think the knob works better for switching and seems to give me smoother operation for the one sound steam engine that I have.
You’re probably aware that the 90 only has 8 functions whereas the 100 has 12.
Compare both and see wetter you want to use the extra features of the lenz100 now or in the future.
If so, I would go for the set 100, because it cheaper to buy and add a LH90 later, then it is to buy a LH100.
I personally have a set 1 (upgraded to newest version) and added a LH90 later, because I also preferred a knob, but to be honest when you get used to the push buttons its works fine.
Hope this will help you to make a decision.

I bought a SET 100 first and added a LH90 later. Programming is better with the 100, but running trains is better with the 90, knob control and forward neutral reverse switch.
Personal preference!!

To me, i’d go with the Set 90. It is much cheaper, and I prefer the knob (though either is fine). For the extra price, all you get is a few more functions (F0-F13 I believe versus F0-F9)
