LGB Disney Starter Set

I really like the LGB Disney Starter Set, item #72350. The engine almost looks like the Fred Gurley engine at Disneyland, Anaheim. The two cars included match the side-facing “Holiday” cars at Disneyland. However, the price for this set is around $900 or even more. I think the price is a rip off. I just want to buy the cars. Does any one know where I can find only the cars?
And how much would the cars cost?

I’m planning on running the cars on my “Disneyland” garden railway.

If the loco and cars are only being offered as a set, the best bet is to watch Ebay for a broken up set. That occurs fairley regularly for the other starter set, but this one being such a unique set and a very pricey set it may not get sold broken up. $900 does seam a bit step but that is the asking retial price. If you shop around most likely you’ll find it closer to $600 either on-line or at the larger discount suppliers. LGB’s are always on the step end of the price curve. I suspect that those open cars will be offered seperatly. If not this year almost certainly next year. too much $$$ goes into the tooling of these so they will be offered for a long time to come.

Why the heck are LGB train sets so expensive? I really love this Disney Starter Set, but I can’t afford it. Spending $900 to $1100 on JUST a train set will make me feel sorry and regretful later on. Aren’t they just made from thick plastics? Plus there’s a LGB of America in San Diego, so the price should be cheaper than its German counterparts. This Disney Starter Set should only be sold for around $100 not $900 to $1100. The value of this set is the price of a Desktop Computer Set with 512 MB and a free color printer. Who would actually buy this stuff?

Hey Disneyland,
We would love to see more of your Disneyland garden railroad since our daughter is a big Disney fan. She has her “TOON TOWN TRAIN” made up from Bachmann rolling stock and a used LGB 0-4-0 painted in very bright colors with “Mickey” heads as logos.
If you ever go on the Disney forum she goes by the name of Zen 1.

Go to the FYI thread on this forum and look for the live steam section…click on the Disney loco link you just might want one.

Disneyland, I feel your anger. LGB has always been Cadillac prices or maybe I should say Porsche prices. I really really want the reissued Chloe for my collection but will look for then best deal. I wont pay full price for it. They are probably THE best engineered products out there thats why they charge a premium, which is odd because in the scale and accuracy department they are often sorely lacking in the same quality. BTW LGB of America in San Diego is only the importing agent, all LGB is made in Germany.

Trouble with LGB is that they still consider themselves the industry leader and the best in the business, even though Aristo Craft, USA and Bachmann have just beat the snot out them here in the USA for new products. As I said in another forum, 10 years ago they were the industry leader, now they are just another player.
