my parents gave me a bunch of these little ceramic collectables. They found them at a thrift shop… but they are really nice. I am wondering if anyone has used them in their layout? they look to be a bit small for HO but not too bad… a two story house measures about 2" wide and about 2.5 feet tall. they have all kinds of little shops and churches… I was thinking if they are too small, maybe they can go up on a mountain using some scale compression of the mind.
You’ve got the right idea for forced perspective, small things set back look further away. There are a number of nice looking “collectables” that don’t quite fit scale, but can be used in similar methods. The buildings I have seen that best do this are often slightly screened by trees. I just purchased a church in N scale to set back in the trees, probably only the spire will be fully visible. Also am thinking about a small barn red or white spot on the painted backdrop to represent a distant house/barn.
I have a set of Liberty Falls buildings. They are actually close to N scale, but some of the details are out of scale. They are a bit bright in color. A paint wash would tone them down a bit. For background buildings in HO I think they would be great.
