‘Lightning stripes’ are back: Norfolk Southern releases New York Central Heritage locomotive

This is the one I have been waiting for. I grew up near the NYC mainline through the west side of Cleveland by the “Little Rockport” yard in the late 50’s early 60’s watching them go by.

OH WHY is Overland models the only one releasing these? They are so pricey!!! Personaly, I like the GE paint schmes better. But this is a nice one too.

Beautiful! Too bad it isn’t an ALCO.

Great looking locomotive. Brings back fond memories as my father worked for many years at the Collinwood locomotive facility. He retired in 1968 after the Pennsylvania merger.

Too bad it’s not a GE. Instead, it was built by job-stealing scabs from Muncie!

At last! A paint scheme even uglier than the horse and stripes. Little wonder that so many of us find the car “tags” more photographable than the lead units.

[As an aside, the NYC stripes had their genesis in the “speedlining” of the 1930s, which only really looked good when the units themselves were well streamlined, something almost impossible to do nowadays in the era of boxy, utilitarian diesels. Perhaps there’s a lesson there, somewhere.]

Beautiful paint ! I wish it was a F or E unit !
