Has anybody out there lit the interior of an Overland coach? I have a few Superliner cars of various types that I would like to light.
The cars don’t have interiors, or much of any interiors that I can see, but I haven’t opened them up yet to really see what’s inside. I got the cars from an online dealer. They are older items but they are still new-in-the-box.
I know that Walthers has some interior lights, but I have not studied it yet and I have not seen any for double-decker or Superliners.

Hello Furx,
Just a suggestion.
Take photos of your cars and include shots of one of them disassembled (trucks, underside, interior).
I’m certain there are several modelers here that can probably help you, but without photos or diagrams, it’s difficult to make recommendations.
I was thinking that perhaps SW Chief might see your thread and chime in.

Not having any brass Superliners I’m not too sure exactly what to use for interior lighting, but Walthers does have a nice lighting kit for their Superliners.
Product Number 933-6004 currently out of stock [:(]
It is basically just a light board. There are built in metal hooks in the Walthers Superliners to connect to the light board to power it. But you could solder power wires to it for your Superliners.
Here is what the light board looks like:

And what it looks like when installed and powered:

The trick is how to power interior lights. I’m not sure how Overland trucks work. But they might be able to carry track power. If not, you can always use batteries. In a Superliner, you can hide batteries on the lower level to power interior lights upstairs.
The photos of the lighted Walthers car really nicely illustrates the issue with my Superliners: no interior details! I would probably have to start with that to make it really worth doing. The trucks are another factor as they are plain metal and don’t appear to be isolated as north and south rails for powering anything. I can email Brian at Overland and see about switching out those wheels with others from Overland. I don’t want to destroy the incredible rolling glide that these cars have. Batteries sound like a bad plan for me. I very much prefer to leave the cars on the track and not have to pick them up all the time to turn them on and off.
I will upload some photos of one of the cars with the shell open. I would consider doing interior detail too, so stay tuned for some images. Maybe people will have suggestions for that also.
