Lindsay Ho Locomotive made from bronze

Does nayony have any info about Lindsay locomotives ? The one i have is HO scale and made from bronze cast. From what I could find out it was made in the 50s. It was very well designed.

Thanks
Carl

Carl,
Back in the '50s, Lindsay was considered one of the premier motor designer/makers for HO. I’ve attached citations for two articles from the Index of Magazines below in case you want to order photocopies. I think the locos were almost a sideline, as a means of selling more motors. Kemtron, which has evolved into Precision Scale Co., Inc, used Lindsay motors in several of their products, although Levon Kemalyan also used Pittman motors in other products. While most motors of that time, such as Pittman’s, were open frame, Lindsay’s were enclosed in a diecast zinc frame. Perhaps some of the other senior citizens can add more details.

The Lindsay “Ghost” was one of the first really compact power units in HO, used for gas electrics, small switchers, and other tight quarter uses.

This is a NW-2 It is all bronze and it seems to run very well. from what I can tell the motor has a skerewed armature and it has a flywheel and the motor is mounted in the truck.
The casting are better than some of the are availble today. The bell even has a working clapper. I would like to find out more about this locomotive, it is very interesting. It would be the Rolls Royce of the time and competes very well in todays market. It would also be nice to know what happened to the lindsay line of products

Hey does anyone know if there are old stock Lindsay gearboxes out there somewhere still available ? Or if there is a suitable substitute replacement ? I have a need for about 6 of them

. Thanks OHNOMr.Bill

Lindsay (or sometimes “Lindsey”) parts come up on eBay every now and then. I’ve seen just about every complete motor or different part come up at some point in the past.

Or, if all you need is the geared axle, Northwest Short Line makes replacements.

If it is the same as shown in this link, http://hoseeker.org/lindsay/lindsayflier1951pg1.jpg, the manufacturer is calling it brass, not bronze. You may find additional info if you look up the Lindsay info at this link: http://hoseeker.org/otherhotrains4.html
