I finally got this set, I’ve been wanting it since it came out. Boy was I surprised when I opened and saw all those passengers and the lighting etc. wow! pretty cool stuff. Did a little research and discovered that this train went right through where I live now, West Lafayette and on down were I used to live, South Fla, whoda thunk it. Only bad thing is now I need some Pennsy Diesels or to just pretend they electrified the whole line and use one of my G’s. Boy now Im looking for a good deal on the 18" Lionel trailblazer set form 2004 or 2005…it just never ends.
In the early 1940s the PRR used 2 streamlined K4 engines to pull the South Wind. This is NOT the same style streamlined K4 that pulled the Broadway Limited. In the late 1980s, Williams made a brass version of this engine, which I have. After 1948, the South Wind was pulled by a PRR diesel streamliner.
Ok, thats great, I am familar with those other shrouded K-4’s and the Weaver loco, although I probably won’t be in the market for one of those unless it was a pretty great deal. The cars look good to me with the early larger Railking turbine I have and I would run them with my Lionel torpedo although its not really correct.
Do the bigger Trailblazer cars have the same type of interior as these?
Thanks for the info!!
I would LOVE this set! Nice find!

Here is a shot of the set with my four year old keeping guard.
Jon- I agree, I have wanted this set ever since it came out but it was too steep at $649 list. Prices are down now so I got it for less than half the old list price.
I just can’t get over the interiors, I guess I am still used to the old cars with the frosted windows. I kind of wish I could reasonably upgreade the congressional set cars to this type of interior.
