Lionel 2023 Union Pacific letter font?

Just a quick question…

Does anybody know if there is a name for the font used on the 1950s era Lionel Union Pacific 2023s?

Does the font exist today or is it a Lionel exclusive lettering kinda thing?

Im doing some restoration work on a set of UP Alcos and just looking for some help with re-lettering and painting.

Thanks…

Craig

**Craig…**there are a lot of guys whose passion is restoration. Have some patience and I’m certain someone will come to your rescue. If you are looking for nose decals, there are some at:

Look on the left of the main page and point on Lionel, click on Postwar, then type 2023 in the search box.

Are you going to repaint the 2023 bodies in silver or in grey over yellow? Why don’t you post some pictures here of your project?

Best approximation is RomanS font.

All fonts are copywrited. Sometimes it’s less expensive for a company (Lionel) to develop they’re own fonts, instead of paying royalities to the owner of the font.

It’s possible that the 2023 was a creation by Lionel, but the RomanS font is close. Also, the font on the trains may be elongated, or compressed in width.

I’m not sure what you are planning to use this for, but try printing UNION PACIFIC from MS Word or whatever word processing program you have and see how they match up, and make adjustments accordingly. You may need a higher end publishing program to get it just right.

You could try putting the loco on a flatbed scanner and scan the “image” into Word. If it matches a font you have in your library, in will scan in as such. If you suspect which font(s) it’s close to and you don’t have them, download them to your fonts folder and scan the loco again to see if you get a match.

Thanks Guys…

I will post pictures as soon as I get in gear with this project.

I`ll be starting an entire new thread with the progress pics…

And thanks for the advice on the font. After reading here and digging around on the net, I think I found something REALLY close.

Stay tuned.
