Lionel 225e and 675

Is the Lionel 675 really derived from the prewar 225e, and does anyone have a 225e, and do you like it?

The boiler was highly modified to include the Belpaire firebox outline, and the motor mechanism slightly modified to account for the smoke unit. The mechanisms share a lot of the same parts.

The 225/225E is a superb runner.

Thanks @ADCX_Rob

Yep. I remember at least one article by John Gramms (or was it Ray L. Plummer?) about the 224/225 and the incredible amount of variants created from that one boiler casting. If I recall correctly, both can claim the 700EW as their progenitor. But it’s obvious if you think about it. Lionel wouldn’t expect all the money they invested in creating the 700EW to be the only use for that casting. They almost immediately produced the 763E and shortened the boiler for the 224/225. From there that casting went all the way to the lower price starter set 229 and on to the 675, 2025 & 2035.
