Lionel 226E & 226W - What cars go with this engine & tender???

Please HELP!!!
I am trying feverishly to find out what cars (Freight or Passenger went with this set!! I have looked all over the internet, and have found no definitive answer.
I have seen the 800, 2800 & 3800 series, but cannot figure out which were the original cars. Someone said that since the 226E was one of the larger engines at that time the cars were longer.
I would at this time just like to find a few cars and a caboose to go along with this set for display purposes. I would like un-restored cars, but it seem that due to their high$ I may have to restore them myself which is fine!
Please HELP! If you know exactly what cars go with the set or have any to sell for a fair price let me know!
Thanks CRASH

Sorry that I can’t help you but you will find the answer if you post this on this part of the forum

Ok here we go. The 226e was issued from 1938 to 1941. There were a variety of sets as follows. Here are the car numbers. each line is a complete set.

2613, 2614, 2615 passenger set. *
2623, 2623, 2624 passenger set
2815, 2816, 2817 freight set *
2955, 2954, 2957, freight set
2816, 3811, 2817, freight set
3811, 3811, 3811, 2817, freight set
2812, 3811, 3814 , 2957X, freight set
2812, 2810, 2820, 2817, freight set *

The sets marked with * came with the #226E. The others came with the #226. The passenger cars are the hardest to get, and also are the most costly. You will notice that Lionel just mixed up the numbers and called it a new set. I have been collecting Lionel Prewar trains for 46 years. If you would like any other information on the subject my email address is johngu@yahoo.com. I would be glad to help if I can…
My pleasure!!
