The light should stay on.
How did you wire the tower? Did you wire it to a #145C Contactor or to a 022 Switch?
I am looking at my K-line Lionel Repair Manual and shows both ways to hook it up.
Let me know which way you are wired up and I will see what the book says.

There are 3 terminals on the bottom of this accessory numbered 1, 2 and 3 (molded into the plastic). Number 1 is the common and should be connected to an accessory post on your transformer ( a lettered post, not U ). Number 3, is the light, and should be connected to the U post or the outside rail of your track (which should be connected to the U post already). Number 2 is the coil, which needs to be connected to U but switched. There are 3 ways to do this. Contactor (pressure plate), insulated track rail, or seperate momentary switch. By the way, the 145 gateman is wired the same way.
My switch tower 445 has 4 connectors on the bottom. They are labeled 1, 2, 3 and blank.
Is there supposed to be a wire connected to the blank connector?
I received this switch tower for Christmas in 1959 and am tring to get it wired for the layout I’m
starting again.
Thanks for any help, Tom
