Lionel 8008

I bought a Lionel steamer 8008. It appears as if it might be DC instead of AC. It will not run with my other steamers, am I correct on this one? Thanks for any help. It’s blue in color . Best Regards, Jake

Yes, it’s DC. It is possible to convert, if you’re interested.

Hello Fred Bear! Your #8008 is from 1980 and is from the Cheasapeake Flyer set catalouged that year and can be made to run on AC with a Circuit Board that Lionel can supply you or you can fit in a Pullmore Motor as they have the same sideframes as the DC Motored Engines of that time period. Warrens Model Trains can help you out with this. Just go to their website & e-mail or call them to check for price & shipping charges as they’ve got both the Circuit Boards/ Pullmore Motors in stock. Take Care.

Yes, this engine is part of a small collection of engines that Lionel made that runs ONLY on DC power, running this engine on AC will burn out the motor.

The upper level of my layout is a 027 loop, and I have the AC-DC adapter that Lionel made connected between the transformer and the track, so I can run the DC only engines. This adapter can often be found on e-bay.

You can also make your own. All you need is a bridge rectifier and a DPDT switch.
