Bought a newer version of the Lionel American Flyer Oil Drum Loader off ebay awhile back and am just getting around to setting it up. It’s the one with the forklift that pivots around to load drums. Unfortunately the direction sheet wasn’t with it. Can anyone tell me the proper clips to wire to the transformer? There are three clips under the base labeled 1,2,and 3. Numbers 2 and 3 each have a wire going up to the motor in the shed, number 1 is bare (maybe for the work light that’s missing?). Does it matter which of the other two is hooked to ground? Control button is missing also - also assuming that the transformer power (hot and ground) has to go through a control button then to one of each of the clips, like the Lionel AF log loader, but which ones?
Any ideas, or any idea where I can scam up an operating sheet/diagram for this?
Clip 2 is the ground for your transformer U post. Clip one should go to the button and then to hot, as it operates the forklift. Clip 3 should be connected to hot all the time, as it operates the yard light.
Click on Owners Manuals, then enter the part number. I used the P/N for my oil drum loader, 12862, and downloaded all three manuals listed. You’ll find the wiring information there, including a revised wiring section.
The part number for the two-bulb floodlight tower is 610-2767-112. You should be able to get it from a Lionel parts dealer, or directly from Lionel ($2.80). The slide switch is 600-5903-001 ($2.00).
Enjoy your new oil drum loader. It’s one of my favorites![:)]
Thanks guys, never occured to me to check the Lionel site - gotta remember that for future reference as well. In the past I’ve always relied on my K-Line and Greenberg manuals for everything, but AF branded (old or new) isn’t covered in mine. Found the diagram I needed, now to crimp some connections and wire it up! I’ll have to add the other parts to my list to get.
