Anyway you can disable command and see if the engine runs conventionally ?
Remove the shell and make sure the reciever board is firmly seated. Often times in shipping boards can work there way loose. I had the NH version at one time. I’m thinking it had the same symptons and was returned to Lionel. All the functions but no movement. I believe they replaced the driver board. They are great runners with a unique sound. Hopefully it will be a simple fix.
Nope. Won’t move in conventional mode either. The direction cycles with the direction lever on the ZW, headlights change sides, and the RS RPM increases with the increase in voltage.
Do a factory reset. If it is answering to all commands except moving, could be a problem with the gears. Check to insure something is not in the gears or gears binding. I think it is a board problem and I hope the factory reset [means put the engine in program, address the engine and do an AUX1 and the proper code {in the owner’s manual} then kill power and switch to run].
Kurt,
Just an FYI that not all Diesels reset with #8. My SD9 resets with #5.
The SD9 I have is VERY sluggish with its Odessey system so I’m looking into changing from Odessey to ERR’s cruise. We’ll see as I haven’t opened the SD9 to check the boards. Looking forward to hearing your out come because my SD9 came from Trainz as well.
Kurt, did you go to PROGRAM and then reset? Then go back to RUN. Want to make sure you did not just do a rest. Brent, if that is new Odessey, can not believe it is sluggish. Newer verson does not have the jerk of the early kind and with Legacy, works great.
The Legacy and 05 Odessey engines are smooth as silk, the 03 Odessey has some jerkiness to it. I’m going to try and work on it this weekend and see if I can get it to run better, if not it will be going back to Trainz. I have been in contact with them and we’ll see what happens. Very nice to do business with so far.
03 probably does have the “jerks”. Some of my earlier Lionel diesels with Odessey will almost stop and then recover, if you close the throttle fast. To make them smooth out you have to “feather” the throttle closed.
Chief - I don’t want to take over the thread, but mine won’t even move until the CAB-2 reads
‘17’ on the power meter. Then if I back it off to ‘10’ is runs but ‘jerks’, this has caused some lighter flatcars to derail.
I want to see what Trainz recommends before I do anything. I have read on ERR’s site where their Cruise Commander Odessey takes care of this, so if I can’t correct it with ‘natural’ parts, I’ll go that route. This isn’t the prettiest engine, but it gives me something else to run with the GP-30s (not MUed). I have contemplated buying the B&O GP-30, but think I’m going to hold off till I see what Lionel comes out with Legacy in the next couple years.
Brent, On my early model Odyssey engine I set the speed steps as hi as it would go and it helped a bunch with the lurch & jerks, ain’t perfect but lots better.
