WEll it was Lionel that dumped it’s line of challengers. I was just at Just Trains and they have it in stock at 275.00[:0]. I don’t run HO but thought you guys would like a line on a good deal. Bill
All last year, everyone was telling Lionel to stay out of the HO business, because of the competition. This is how Lionel went under back in the 70’s, but would they listen, NOOOOOOO. Now they may just loose their shirts again. Oh well some people are just hard heads and they never learn. I suppose we’ll be seeing Lionel on the auction block by this time next year or sooner.[banghead][banghead][dinner][dinner]…[#oops]“They did it again”
That is very interesting, since Internet trains sold them for 199 to previous customers last week. Most of the online dealers are pricing them around 239 and a few are just tying to get their money back. After they are all gone from the dealers, I would guess they will at least bring the original cost to the dealers.
It is sad for the dealers that had them in stock since they paid at least a hundred dollars more for them than they can sell them for now.
I feel bad for the dealers and Lionel is off my list for good.
If I owned any Neil Young records, tapes or CD’s, they would be in the trash!!!
they are also dumping their Veranda turbines, at First Hobby they sell at 219,99 but on PRE ORDER delivery 04/12, four different road#, it seems Lionel is lowering the price on engines sill in production
Right now, I think they’re probably trying to save their collective fannies and keep from going under.
SOrry that the price i saw wasn’t the best out there. Just wanted to give abig shout out for what i thought was a really good deal. It does make you wonder about the dumping of this product. I read in another post that they had to post a 41 million dollar bond, perhaps this is a way for them to raise some much needed capital. Bill
I read a blurb in MR that Lionel was going to introduce a second version the the Veranda turbines. I don’t really recall what the changes where going to be, possibly cosmetic or eletrical. It suppose to ship this fall.
There’s probably a post about it… I haven’t gotten to it yet… been gone awhile.
I hope Lionel makes a come back summer of next year and brings us a NP Z-8 Challenger at a reasonalble price. And shock EVERYONE.
I guess what I don’t understand is why they had to “dump” everything to get out of the market? Why couldn’t they have just stopped producing the models and when they were all sold to dealers, they could be done. What benefit did the dumping approach give to Lionel?
