Lionel General

I have the original General set still in boxes circa 1959. I am trying to find out the value.

Thanks

I assume you have the Lionel "Fronteir Set from 1959. The value will vary greatly depending on the condition of the set and and box. This set comes up frequently on Ebay. I would suggest watching the auctions and compare them to the condition of your own set.

If you have the 2528WS “Five Star General Set” in the original yellow suitcase box with individually boxed components its worth around $1500 in LN condition. It was in 1960 that the set was boxed in a slotted outfit box with no individual component boxes.

If its the 1612, 027 General Set, LN, in the yellow suitcase box, $750 - $900. This set was also offered in a conventional outfit box but is worth a bit less.

If its the 1800, 027 Gift Pack , LN, in the yellow suitcase box, $800-$1000. It iincluded the horse car, but didn’t have track or transformer like the 1612.

Later on there were other general sets cataloged. The most valuable of which is the 13036 set which was a SuperO Set that included the Fort Knox Gold Car and The Sheriff and Outlaw Car.

Unfortunately, condition is critical when it comes to the value of these relatively fragile sets. And, the set box is a big part of the worth. Without it you can deduct upwards of 30%.

It is in the ‘suitcase box’ including the original boxes that the Engine and cars came in…

Thanks for the info…
