Why dosent Lionel make a variety of GE engines like dash 9s and ac6000s? The only other company I know of that makes them are MTH, and with a variety of road names. I know Lionel has made them in sets and such, but I think they should start foucusing more on MODERN locos rather than GPs and Alcos. I dont mind them making f3s, that more of their heritage, but I think making more modern locomotives would be a good idea for them. Whats yalls thoughts on this?
I do remeber them making some individually, I think it was a BNSF or Santa Fe, but im talking more about them making them as a important line, making them more often.
I’ve wondered about this too. How are you suppose to get younger buyers if you don’t make affordable trains they can relate to? Most of the modern stuff Lionel makes is very expensive. I’d like to see some O-27 modern commuter trains, O-27 subway trains, maybe an O-27 SD-60 (is that even possible?).
I know it’s not a GE but, Lionel is producing there own Union Pacific Heritage Series SD70ACe. (six different schemes) I really love MTH versions. My LHS has one and it is beautifully decorated with LOTS of add-on detail. But , I RELLY hope Lionel does this good …because I want one!!
Over the course of the last 30 years they have made GE loco’s both in scale size and “traditional”. The Spirt of 76 bi-centenial set was issued with a U-Boat (U-36B) as the locomotive. Other issues have included U and Dash series engines. The Dash-9’s and ACC 4400’s look pretty silly in traditional size. The loco’s are over 72’ long and that scales out to 18" in O. By the time you shrink these down to run on O-27 they look like the Coyete slammed into a fake tunnel portal the Roadrunner painted on the side of a cliff[;)]
Hello Grayson! It is most likely a matter of economics when making a decision of what kind of Steam/Diesel Engines to produce for a market that is very finiky at best & hard to please at worst. This would seem to be the situation for now. They can only produce what they feel will sell & not sit on someone’s shelf for years & I imagine that the other companies have this same dilemma. Take Care.
Yes, pretty moderately priced (for Lionel at least) but I have never really liked the SD70ACe’s. There nose is to “boxy” to me, yet they are very powerful engines. I’ve always had traditonal locomotives and cars, never the expenisve standard O line. If you look at their quality ready-to-run sets, it contains a sd90 engine whith 4 or 5 modern freihgt cars. The engine has TMCC and RS. Even though its traditional size it look very detailed and doesnt look anthing like a dash 9 or ac44 or ac6000 would look srinked down to traditional size. Im planning on ording the set soon.
