I have a Lionel NYC GP9 Railsounds engine from 1996 that likes to stop and reverse when going through some switches. Everything 's clean. Any ideas? Thanks
Are they Gargrave switches?
Your contact rollers may be too close to each other to keep electical contact on the switch. I understand with the Gargraves and extra roller is needed. Check to make sure both roller electrical connections are good.
You could also have a dead outside rail.
I have the same engine and found out lionel has a kit to switch the couplers over to coil couplers so you can opperate them from your remote like the rest of the tmcc there $19.95 a set but you will need 2 sets to do both. if interested email me I email you back info if you haven’t already done it.
Dub: I use Lionel “O” gauge tubular track and 022 switches.
RRColl: Thanks anyway but I’ll just keep em the way they are.
Thanks
Excellent suggestion. If that is not it, check for rollers shorting out under engine due to too high center rail on switch. Also, turn out lights. Run engine through switch while getting right down where you can see under engine and look for arcing. Could be anything touching.
