I got a Lionel Operating Milk (36621) car that doesn’t operate! I know some of how to fix these but not enough! I have that Lionel service manual that K-line put out. It doesn’t tell me enough! This is what the car doesn’t do! When you apply AC power to those sliding shoes, all it does is buzz! I’m using a Tyco Xfer, the AC side. I’ve used the same power supply to check out the Brakeman car, I got that to work!. I’ve taken the top off milk car. It has milk kegs still. I can manualy work all the parts, it all seems fine! Its also clean in there. What IS the problem? The power output is only 6V AC, as I said I got the Brake Car to work with it!
How can I check that seal? In the manual it says to use speacail Lionel lube to get it to seal! Well I don’t have any of that stuff! Is there something else that’ll work to create that vacuum seal?
Well …went thru my collection of xfers. Found an old,I mean old Aurora Postage Stamp AC/DC Xfer. This baby puts out 18 VAC, tried in on my Lionel Brakeman car, WOW, that guy goes up and down like there a drill Sarg on him!! So it works!
Well I hooked it up to the milk car, same deal! More buzz, no action! BUMMER! What can it be???
Try pushing the plunger in by hand to check for binding in the mechanism. It would be best to get it working before dealing with the dashpot seal as that is quite a job.
I can push the plunger in and out the no problem, smooth operation!
I want to make shure that I’m testing this correctly…all I do with the VAC is make contact with the those shoes. I connect than disconnect, to see if I can get some sort of action. You can here it buzz, thats it. Any ideas?
Hi again Jim!
Found out what the problem was! I did more Wattage! The Postage stamp doesn’t have enough wattage! I dragged out my KW, hooked the milk car up to posts C & D, and there it goes! Back and worth that are goes!
