Hey everyone,i made an inquiry at lionel.com to purchase replacement parts.I recieved an email from ken at “lionel.com” telling me how to order said parts.Consequently my computer is saying that it is a unsafe website and may be phishing!Could someone else try adding something to shopping cart and then go to check out to see if they get the same certificate errors.I thought everyone should know about this!John
I ordered parts on Line from Lionel a couple weeks ago. They arrived this week. No problems.
thanx for the info, have you tried it lately?
hey,has anyone tried it today?
Sounds like an anti-virus program on your computer is warning against an unknown site. Mine often does this even when there is no threat.
As a safety precaution, you could run a virus scan on the email before you open it, but it’s probably no problem. Also, my ISP allows me to open email at their site - I never have to download email, etc. to my computer. If you don’t have this option, check with your ISP to see if it’s available.

OK, seriously… do you REALLY think Lionel is running a phishing scam?
It can be a number of things, but most likely you have your Internet Explorer Security settings set to high, or your Anti-Virus/Firewall software is tagging it.
- You should contact Lionel about this
- You should contact your Anti-virus software manufacturer for the proper steps to fix it
- Try using another browser other than Internet Explorer and see if the problem persists
FYI - I just added 3 parts to my cart, click ‘Go To Checkout’ and received a window requesting Billing Information… so it appears it is on your side, not Lionel’s, and if I can do this from work then it certainly is an issue on your side because we block quite a bit of online content.
I absolutely did not say they were running a scam!! I just wanted someone else to check it out to see if there was a problem.I just didnt know if i was on the real lionel website! I did contact them and they tried to reasure me on this.Thanx for the FYI, but how are we supposed to know what is real on the internet these days.FYI to you, it is better to be safe than sorry!! I have had alot of credit card fraud and dont need anymore!
John,
FYI - I work in IT and do this stuff for a living. I am VERY, beyond VERY careful on the web. I have 1 and only 1 CC that I use for internet transactions and I change my password on this account every month when I pay it off. I also do not pay for ANYTHING online with my debit card. If I have to pay for something with another card then I check that account every day for 3 months to verify that nothing got stollen.
If you are concerned about a site call their customer service number. BTW - I also have ALL the customer service numbers for ALL the companies that I have delt with, that way if a site does get hacked then I know I am calling the right number.
It is apparent to me that you aren’t very versed in computers, especially what some alerts mean. The best thing to do when something like this happens is call the company in question and see if anyone else has reported a problem. Another thing you can do is Google the alert and read up on what it means. Many times doing this will alert you to what you need to do to fix the problem.
I hope you get your parts and everything else is OK.
BTW - you may want to check to see if you CC company offers ‘safe online shopping’ or something alnog those lines. There are companys that you can get a different card number everytime you use your card online - your physical card number stays the same, but you enter a different card number and the CC company translates it when it comes in for authorization. I’ve never needed this, but it may be worth your time to look into it since you’ve been nailed before.
What’s Internet Explorer?
Switch to Firefox and your problems will disappear.

John,
If you are unsure if a site is secure, just check the address of the site. If it begins with http://, it isn’t secure. All secure site addresses begin with https://. If you are using Internet Explorer, the address bar will turn green and the will be a lock symbol in the address bar when you visit a secure site.
Simply love these types of responses…
I’ve been using IE since it came out and never once have I had issues.
Brent,
Were you able to obtain Lionel’s CSX AC 6000 Non-Powered Diesel with the Bass sound?
I see in addition to the power unit there are two non-power units: the one with the Bass and another with other features in it.
Good Luck,
Ralph
yes that was it!
