Lionel Questions and Troubleshooting.

I have a couple of my Dad’s old Lionel O27 steamers. And have a couple of questions…the light on the steamer comes on…but the train doesn’t move. The direction knob on the loco is VERY loose…so I’m wondering if that is the problem. Two is this…I need a good, cheap, yet dependable DC transformer/throttle to control these trains. Thanks!!!

It gives you a couple simple things to check out before you get too far along. Lionels are probably some of the simplest to repair, so you shouldn’t have problems figuring out the problem.
Transformers should be real cheap- you should be able to pick up a good used one for a couple bucks or so at a show or train shop. Or even Ebay, check with some of the Lionel dealers on there.

You might want to post this on the Classic Toy Trains forum (see forum index above). That’s where the Lionel crowd hangs out. Good luck.

Be sure you ask on the Classic Toy Trains about the motor in the Lionel. it may well be an AC motor.

My Lionel’s O27’s were AC. The ones I should have kept. But went in a yard sale. Whining off…
