Lionel SD70ACe videos/photos ? [ 2 VIDEOS LINKED! ]

I was wondering if anyone here have or know where there is a video or photograph of Lionel’s Legacy SD70ACe diesel. I have the BNSF version on order, and was just curious as to what they look like (I’ve never seen the actual model) and what they sound like. Thanks!

Here ya go:

Sounds great. Then listen to the MTH version. Not as good.

The main thing I dont like about the MTH sounds is the crew talk… Its a little unserious… For example, Lionel says “Dispatch, are we ok to depart?” “Affirmative, your are clear to go”.

While MTH has things like this: “Are we ready to go?” “Check the air pressure” “Air pressure checks out” “LETS GO!” “Its going to be a great day on the road, ready when you are” All of that would be in one talk session… I just dont like it… Maybe I have a problem or something, by Lionel does a much better job on there crew talk, IMHO…

Legacy, you hear air compressor, squeeling and great diesel sounds. Thent he horns are outstanding. MTH, horns sound luke a dying cow.

I agree. That’s why I waited for Lionel’s version of the ACe to come out. I really like how you can activate the Lionel crew sounds, and it’s a lot more realistic because it announces your actual locomotive. For instance, on my SD80MAC, the dispatcher says, “Norfolk Southern 7203, you are clear out bound,” verses, on my MTH switcher, “boy, that’s a lot of cars,” “we’re ready to call it a night,” “are we ready to go?”, “that’ll bring us right up to lunchtime,” etc. Lionel does do crew announcements much better.

Actually, the whole quality of the Lionel engine looks much better than the MTH version - just like always, the RailSounds are enough to shake the earth, and when you hear MTH ProtoSounds, they still sound okay, but more “HO-ish” - kind of cheap sounding. And the engine’s basic appearance is sleek and perfect, and the ditch lights flash a little slower, so it’s more prototypical. I think I’ll like my engine when it comes! [:D]

“And the ditch lights flash a little slower, so its more prototypical I think”

In all truth, nobody in O, HO, or any other scale makes prototypical ditchlights, because the proto type dont really “flash”, they just reduce in intensity.

Because the bulbs are so small, you really cant do it, but on real engines you will notice that the lights just about go out, then they come back on. They never completely turn off. I wish they could do that with the small bulbs they use.

Yeah that would be neat.

Hey everyone I just found another video, and it’s even better than the first! Lots of action in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVYYb_QVIkc

These engines are amazing!

Hello everybody! that is an amazing engine! That video was shot at the LHS that I frequent in San Antonio Tx! Thanks for sharing it!

I was at my LHS and they were a little upset that one of the mopac versions came in, they had only ordered the regular UP. After seeing the clips in this thread, I plucked it on the spot.

Thanks.

As to small lamps being set up to not go out completely, it is a simple matter of bias. It can be done and I’m going to take a look at it. I think i’ll pull the CN apart rather than the new one, LOL

Got the Katy last Friday. The sounds are so great, they warrent full volume operation. Can be heard throughout the house. One observation, it appears the shell is slightly distorted above the head light on the cab roof after a couple hours of operation. It’s presumably from heat. I inspected this baby with a magnifying glass initially, and I don’t recall seeing this. It is warm to the touch. I run at 18 Volts from a new ZW. I’m waiting to hear from Lionel on this.

Am I missing something? This is the first Legacy engine I have purchased that does NOT have the speed limit function???

I like both.
