Can anybody point me in the right direction. I am loosely modeling the LIRR of the 1950’s could anybody give me a web site or tell me what loco’s were used during the transition era .
A time line with the types of locos the LIRR owned and leased during this period would be perfect.

Somehow the LIRR ended up borrowing some (two, I think) NH RS-3’s not too long after they were delivered to the NH circa 1950/1/2.
See in this pic, thats a G5 with the nose of NH RS-3 5-- in the background out on the Island:

Theres a 99% possibity that that RS unit is one of the LIRR’s own, they have a paint scheme that was a lot like the NH’s.
Nice try armchairmodeler, but it is an NH RS-3 - this was verified by NHRHTA.
Just let you know, A good reference book for the LIRR is Steel Rails to The Sunrise by Ron Ziel. I actually met and talked with him in the late 70’s and early 80’s and he had a very good picture of one of the RS3’s in a grey and orange color scheme that looked a lot like NH Mcginus Orange White and Black scheme.
The LIRR also had a number of ALCO Century 420 units. I used to ride behind them when going out to the South Fork (Hamptons) in the 1960’s.

During the early '50’s, G-5s, G-5s and more G-5s. Also a few H-10s on freight.
There were also some of those smelly internal-combustion thingies around, too.
That unit is not in the McGinnis scheme, it is in the delivery Warm Orange and Pullman green…[sigh]
