Little Red Solo Cup

After I assembled and painted the roof on the Rix Maxwell Avenue house, I noticed it needed a little touch up paint. Since I had used a Krylon spray, thus couldn’t ‘mix’ up some more matching paint I thought I’d spray a heavy dose in my little red solo cup and, quickly using a small brush… correct those areas.

Next time I’ll use a different type of cup or be faster in getting it to the trash can. [:$]

Do you have a blunder you’d like to share? [:D]

I once filled a plastic bathroom cup with some Home Depot brush cleaner. I should’ve read the label because it is mostly acetone! I’d forgotten about until my wife went into that bathroom and asked my why there was a puddle of stinky green goo (the cup was green) on the counter. Oh brother, what a dope!

Hey, that’s not nice to call your wife a dope!!! [(-D]

Add me to the melty cup crew; partly filled a plastic cold cup w/ some Lacquer Thinner (not sure why, I was also using a small glass dessert bowl to hold the thinner), and of course the bottom melted out, luckily on a waste piece of wood (I long ago learned NOT to pour things which can make big, ugly messes over surfaces that I want to keep clean) - the piece of wood still has remmant melted gobs of cup bottom.

I thought the plastic cap from the spray paint can was the traditional receptacle for collecting a small amount of spray paint for brush painting…

Oops! Was actually calling myself a dope, a point underscored by my previuse post!

“I thought the plastic cap from the spray paint can was the traditional receptacle for collecting a small amount of spray paint for brush painting…”

Hadn’t thought of that. I’d always assumed it was there to protect the nozzle from being depressed accidently.

With 55 plus years in the hobby I have many…

To choose one will be hard but, here’s my better best goof to date.

I bought a Badger paint mixer and of course did the unthinkable…I turned the fool thing on before placing it in the bottle and ended up with the expected results.[banghead]

All I can say thinkfully the paint was Polly S water base paint and everything cleaned up without problems…

Reminds of that country singer Toby Keiths song “Red Solo Cup”, love that song!

Heres the video of of at an awards show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMEtqj2Fa4s

Pouring Minwax wood stain into a Styrofoam coffee cup. Took it about half an hour but it did eat through the cup. Did that at the ripe old age of 9.

I poured some gasoline into a styrofoam cup to clean car parts. The fun thing was the way the cup reacted. The first sign that something was wrong was a lot of pinholes and spouts of gas on the sides of the cup before it completely fell apart. Not much gas, fortunately, and it was on a concrete shop floor.

Little red Solo cup, baby ya melt too fast[8]

Of course that’s the primary purpose, but since there is a chance (if not a likelyhood) of the cap getting sprayed (say you accidently hit the nozzle while trying to put the cap back on) - therefore the cap needs to be able to handle it’s own can’s spray paint formulation. So the cap should be able to withstand a small puddle of paint sprayed into it.

Keep a supply of those little plain paper bathroom cups around, and use those for spraying paint into. Paint may try to soak through a little, but I always set the cup on a scrap of plywood or something just in case.

Last year at a train show there were two types of cups at the coffee wagon, Styrofoam and wax coated paper (for pop). This guy reached for the wax coated paper cups for his hot coffee. I suggested he use the styrofoam cup for coffee but he brushed me off. He poured two and carried them over to the cream and sugar area where they promptly disintegrated from the heat. Coffee everywhere.

Gotta wonder about those model railroader types.[:-^][(-D]

Makes sense to me! [8D]

I did the same thing in reverse. I lifted the mixer out before shutting it off completely[D)]. Of course I had a finished structure on the back of my work bench…you can guess the rest! Buy hey! You gotta learn somehow![banghead]
