Lloyd Stagner

Sad to report that rail historian Lloyd Stagner passed away over the wknd. He was a longtime retiree of the Santa Fe and then began a career of writing over 30 books on rr history, including several Morning Sun books. Simply put, he was a walking textbook on SF & rr history in general. I first met him over 20 yrs ago ,which developed a long friendship. You could not have asked for a better friend. Being around him made me develop a serious passion on rr history and become a armchair researcher on rr history myself. Sundays Wichita Eagle @ kansas.com has a story on him.

Chico lost a true friend. Only got to meet the man once.

I corresponded with Lloyd but never met him. I greatly enjoyed his accounts of railroading each time I encountered them, and thus anything with his byline was a first-read. He wrote because he enjoyed sharing and I’m the richer for it.

RWM

[angel] The world is little poorer now and sadder I know he will have a smooth track and clear signals Larry

I was fortunate to have met Lloyd through a mutual friend, who passed away almost 10 years ago. The last time I saw Lloyd was at a Santa Fe mini convention here in the Kansas City area a few years ago. The SFRH&MS has a salute to Lloyd and can be found at:

Take care,
