LMS

does anyone know LMS?

Do you mean the british railway London Midland & Scottish?

I saw the “Flying Scotsman” when it toured Canada and the U.S. in the early '70s.

Actually, lincoln5390, the Flying Scotsman ran on the LNER (London and North Eastern Railway), not the LMS.

Trains_Fan_, Check out these links for good information on the LMS:

Thanks Sask_Tinplater

I should have lread the caption on the photo I took of the Flying Scotsman. Memory gets dull as time goes by. Thanks for the links. Now I’ll go and check out the LMS.

I’m back again after checking Sask_Tinplater’s links.

I’d almost forgotten about a visit to the US by the Coronation Scot when I was in eighth grade elementary school in Chicago. It was on display at Grand Central Station (Chicago). That would have been just before World War II. And I noted the station Carnforth mentioned in one of the links. That’s where they did a lot of filming of the Noel Coward movie “Brief Encounter” with Trevor Howard, Celia Johnson and Stanley Holloway. Lots of good train action there. Should still be available on VHS or DVD.

Hey, do you mean LMS or LS&MS? There was a Lake Shore & Michigan Southern affiliated with the NYC or Michigan Central that went through Porter, Indiana.

we on the ex LNER used to call the LMS .hell of a mess.its loco,s were garbage.

There was a locomotive lease organisation called LMS who had a batch of GE Dash 8s painted Conrail blue (Locomotive Management Services(?)). I think the locomotives were just rolled into the CSX and NS fleets after the split of Conrail.

It’s a little more complex than that. The Conrail blue C40-8’s were numbered LMS 700-739. It was a joint CR/CN arrangement and when the leasing arrangement was terminated the locomotives were divided among CN/IC, CSX and NS.

The name of the firm is indeed Locomotive Management Services and is an arm of General Electric.

I live in the UK. Used to live near a LMS loco shed many moons ago. what info do you want

I’ve got quite a few LMS models in OO.
