Looking for help IDing a New York Central Boxcar from a photo

Hey all! I’m planning on building a diorama recreating this scene of a New Haven RS-2 shoving a NP and NYC boxcar into the Ocean Spray Cranberry packing plant in South Hanson, MA. I’ve found a model of the NP boxcar that I can re-number and weather to match the photo, but I can’t ID the NYC boxcar. I’ve seen double door NYC boxcars before, and even have a couple of models of NYC double doors, but they have always have the cigar band on the left side of the car. The only similar such car I’ve found any evidence of is in a product rendering of an accurail 40’ car, product #36409. If anyone can help me ID this style of car so I can model it, that’d be great. Thanks all!

@N_Scale_Train_Boy ,
I think this is what you are looking for.

If it is a 50 footer it could be from NYC Lot # 820-B, 500 cars 71500-71999 1952.

I’ve seen photos of these after getting the Century green paint with the herald on the right side.

There were some 40 foot double door cars from lot 913-B that had the oval on the right after getting a rebuild in 1962 and Century green paint Cars in the 77000-77499 series.

Do you like weathering?

I sure do! Now I’ll have to get TWO of those cars… one for the scene, and one to do up like this! Thanks Ed!

Thanks Al! Definitely a great starting point for looking for models, although this one is about 50% too big for my railroad! lol!

Brain fade, right, N scale. Doh! :smile:

There are multiple makers of the car in N scale; the question would be painting and decaling, which might be less critical with the ‘extreme weathering’ option…

The NYC did not have 1937 AAR 40’ Double Door Boxcars, this car is a foobie, the only 1937 AAR 40’ Double Door Boxcars went to the SAL.
