I just joined the forum although I’ve been a subscriber to “Trains” since 1973. Here’s my question: Where can I find more published information and photos on CSX’s GE CW60AC locomotives? How many are in the fleet and when did the road buy them? Have they sold to any other road?
A buddy of mine and I saw a pair of them in Willoughby, Ohio, east of Cleveland, back in late February/early March. They had stopped because of a delay a few miles east and when the very long COFC/TOFC train they were pulling was cleared to start, the two units did so with little effort. Weather that day was cloudy with intermittent snow, and temperatures in the upper teens to low twenties. Plus, the wind was quite sharp. I’ve not been able to find much on the Web about them and GE doesn’t list them on the Web site. I’d appreciate any direction.
You could buy a locomotive roster book . It would give you alot of information. I have one and it is helpful while watching trains or whenever you need it.
Thanx to Brother Carl - I went to the latest Trains mag and one of their advertisers is DPA LTA - I ordered a roster book for all the railroads from their Lewiston NY address.
It is $29.95, but well worth the money - I keep the new one in Millie and the last years model here at work. The old one is well worn!
Thanks to all who responded. I’ve just ordered the latest (2005) issue of The Locomotive Roster & News from McMillan Publications in Colorado.
To: Wabash1 - On your question about the low temperatures and snow, I was impressed by the two units getting the train underway despite cold (stiff) wheel bearings and possible slippery rail as a result of the prevailing climate conditions.
AndyE,
CSX has 117 of th AC6000CW’s in the 600-699 & 5000-5016 number series. They were first delivered to CSX in September 1996. The other roads to order them are the Union Pacific, and a ore hauler in Austrailia. A great website to learn about the AC6000CW, and particularly CSX’s AC6000’s is http://www.trainweb.org/csxrailfan/nov99/ac60/ac60.html
