Looking for Modern Canadian Brass

Hey Everyone

Im looking for some modern Canadian Brass, either in CN or CP era 2000 and up. I tried looking for a CP SD90mac but they are way too hard to find. I see overland has some on future release. I was lucky to hit some bonuses this past quarter, so I want to reward myself. Any suggestions on websites, I checked CMT. ebay? Anyone know any good ones?

Thanks

CASO

I love the Canadian Brass.

My favorite is their first Christmas album:

I got to hear them in concert in 1993 in State College, PA.

Hi Caso,

the only place I can suggest ist this store in Georgetown, their site is www.cvrco.com. They have quite a few brass models all the time.

Ouch ! Yellow card penalty assessed for ‘play on words’ Dave

You are looking at a market target, if you manufactured brass locos in Asia, you would probably try to market a product where it can be sold---- AHA ! the U.S.A. eh? a large population with a few bucks, right?? Now Canada, Hmmmmmm, 2nd largest country in the world and no population, why even think about it? I’m pretty sure the Asian producers are not really looking at providing a large run of brass locomotives for PERU, who would buy them? whole villages couldn’t afford even 1 brass item and I don’t believe a lot of Americans are that intersted in Peruvian Railways, so now you can see the dilemma with Canadian brass, I have a couple of Canadian locos I would like to see, but never will, supply and demand.

A while ago on ebay, I saw a CPR SD40-2F and a CN SD50F, both brass. I don’t know if they’re modern, but ebay shows some good stuff once in a while.

The SD40-2F were delivered in 1988, may be a bit too early.

But they are all still in service too, just a little less clean.

I saw nice brass pieces a few days ago on ebay. They were 4 overland cn dash 8-40cm, but the starting bid was 4 grand, which is over valued. If Im gonna pay that much, i would rather buy new brass. I haven’t seen any CP sd40-2f lately, they are nice though. Im open to ideas on how I should spend this bonus.

Frank

what did you think of the show today??

Keep in mind that these modern units are nearly exact replicas of their American counterparts…so buying a Kato 90 Mac or 4400 CW will be very, very close.

Also, these brass pieces require huge radius.

Hi Caso,

I did not make it to the show today. Forgot about it to be honest, plan on attending the Kitchener show, Toronto show and also will go to the York Model railroaders club. Here is their web site: http://www.yorkrailwaymodellers.info/. Their layout is from the 50’s and right beside them with the same admission ticket you can see the creation of a modern day canadian layout that is also very impressive. With impressive I mean two decks, 30 car freights and a 40 or 50 inch radius spiral that connects the upper and lower deck.

Anyhow wish I had gone to the Woodstock show, it is quite good usually.

Frank

Not the most modern, but something non the less. http://cgi.ebay.com/Overland-Brass-OMI-Canadian-National-CNR_W0QQitemZ180173362280QQihZ008QQcategoryZ78178QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Oooooooo…you stole my pun, Dave! [:)] The Canadian Brass is good…but the Empire Brass is a much better ensemble. Listen to their all-Bach CD sometime.

Anyway, back to trains…

Tom

Ebay is always a pretty good place to check. 85% of my collection I’ve bought off of Ebay.

Brass SD90? I assume you’re talking about the MAC-H, otherwise I would refer you to Kato! I recall seeing a brass 9303, but whether it was a custom painted SD70ACe/M-2 or a ‘real’ SD90 was impossible to tell at that particular show. All I can say is keep looking on ebay, and GOOD LUCK! OMI might have produced one at one point, but I certainly don’t recall it!

i didn’t find anything good on the open market in brass. So I bought another bunch of SD90’s undec in CP. I think this puts my SD90 fleet at 25 now. Nothing beats a kato, and with the exchange, i got a really good deal on a case from my local dealer. I found some really good looking plastic kits too by Huber, so I bought a fair amount of freight cars. Maybe next quarter I will buy some brass, if I get another bonus.

Thanks for help everyone.

Also did anyone see the RSD 17 in CP on ebay?

CASO

Can I ask who your dealer is? I am always interested in KATO units especially the modern units, but paying special attention to the SD70-80 and SD90MAC’s

Rats! You beat me to it, Dave!

Do you have a link? I have a mid-80’s Van Hobbies RSD17 and it is one of the worst for accuracy I have ever seen. I am not sure what to do with it.

Issues include: wrong fuel tank and air tank arrangement and a fan that is too narrow.

I can’t seem to find the link right now. I notcied a Brass SD90mac on ebay in CP, starting bid is $600.

The katos:

I picked them up at my favourite local dealer outside of London, Ontario. Otter Valley. If you want any more info just msg me.
