Looking for new engine...

I am looking for a new engine for my freelanced HO railroad.

price: under $80.00
about 40-60 foot.

Please give manufacturer and number.

Diesel, steam, era, location? Be a bit more specific and I am sure suggetions will flow!

SINCE your criteria is so specific…

BUY a Model Railroader Magazine, Go to the TRAINWORLD ad, and select an engine.

RE: 40 - 60 ft.:
‘GP-7’s 9’s, 20,’ & 30’s, AMTRAK FP-40’s and all ‘F’ units qualify. Modern engines may be too long

Any GP locomotive would do. For GE, any 4 axle, and Alco RS units, RSC, RSD, and FA’s.

A Proto 2000 switcher should do nicely, even though the few they have are '50s and older, some can still be found running on industrial and short lines.

Alvie.

Altas Master Series undec GP38, part # 8960 (or you could choose any available roadname and repaint it). You should be able to find it as low as $45 but pay no more than $70 for it. Comes with a decoder already in it (if you choose to use it).

I am not sure about this, but a Proto 1000 C-Liner might qualify. I don’t know the length. I don’t think it excedes 60 feet. It’s only $19.99 from TrainWorld.

I think the Proto 1000 Erie Built is too long, but it’s also $19.99 for an A unit. A/B sets for $49.95. Again, TrainWorld.

Or, you could get an Athearn CF-7. It is DCC ready, and is around $60.

Please, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Now if you’re talking steam (and what else is there?) an IHC 2-6-0 with tender is about 65’ long and an MDC old-time 2-8-0 with tender is about 55’ (more or less).

And you can get these for less than $80 pretty easy.[:)]

The P1K F3s may also qualify and like Don said"Go to the Trainworld Ad" but after you select but before you buy come on back. You bot a round trip ticket on this forum so you will get experienced
replies.
