Looks like I got bit on ebay.....

Greetings all,

Looks like I got bit on Ebay. I don’t want this to turn into a rant pro and con on ebay.

I paid for an item with paypal as soon as the auction ended. Fair price I thought for a Kato dining car ($25 including shipping). The item was supposed to ship priority mail. I expected it by July 12, one week ago. I and my wife sent (3) e-mails with no response this week, several days apart. The seller has a 99.3 rating. We have a 100% rating, always paying within minutes of auction end.

What I need to know is the best / proper / logical order for pursuing this. Is it

1)contact E-bay

2)contact paypal

3)leave negative feedback

This is my first negative Ebay experience and I want to do what is most likely to get our money back, I assume the car is not likely to show up. It is not likely it was stolen from home as my wife had other ebay packages arrive at the same time from other sellers.

What has worked best for you?

Thanks for your time & support,

Bob

Contact ebay. They do try to help communications sometimes.

Most eBay sellers have another full time job and/or go out of town on vacation. Not to defend the seller, but maybe they are out of town, one way to check would be to see if he has shown any other activity in his ebay account since your auction ended and payment was sent. For example, has the seller sent any feedbacks to other buyers since your item ended?

You should be fine in going through PayPal. Judging by the ratingsd, I;d at least give him a little time.

I have found out from experence that the idems I pay( before getting a invoice) usually take longer to get that if I wait for the invoices to come thro e bay. Some times I have had to wait several weeks .If you know e bay’s and paypal’s rules you know you have to wait 30 days or longer to file a dispute. and that could take up to or over 90 days to settle.I have had 2 idems I never received or got my money back from.Paypal said I waited to long and I was talking to the seller on e-mail. sorry for you haveing to wait but most people usually come thro with the delivery. have good day .

Don’t feel like the lone ranger. We all have bad eBay experiences if we shop there long enough. And for some folks it doesn’t take long at all. Remember that PayPal has buyer protection. I had an experience similar to yours. I finally got the item after opening a dispute with PayPal. The seller said that he’d been in an accident and hospitalized. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Whoa. Depends on how you feel. Depends if you like to shove in the dagger

and give a thrusting upward action with a twist. In all my years of ebay, I have

given about 3 negative feedbacks. Each time represented a rude or curt response

from the Seller. Yes, things do get lost in the mail, but very seldom. In my

particular situation, my item never was recieved. Now when I say depends on

how you feel, that is true in many instances. In my dispute with the Seller

he said he sent it and I should have gotten it already. He gave a date, said

it was the 26th… and then in a second response he said it was sent on the

29th and then gave a bogus tracking number, which the post office said it

was never picked up. Then he gave another excuse of why and how it

happened and he never said it was the 29th.(I even saved his reply that

said it was the 29th) But what really ticked me off was his curt response

and saying its a mere $40 bucks. And my money would be refunded by PayPal.

So when I say depends…

  1. Did you get conflicting replys?

  2. Did you get rude or curt response?

  3. Did you really want this item and the money really doesn’t mean anything?

  4. Do you feel you have an obligation to warn other Ebayers?

Now in my case, the money didn’t mean anything. The rude response mattered.

Warning other ebayers of the situation was important to me. I gave this Seller

all the time to make good on his contract, I wanted him to refund my money.

He still gave his tipical response… and I gave the Negative feedback. But…BUT

only one, one of four items. I took his 100 percent feedback down to 99.1.

With still 2-3 it

Sounds like you have been very thorough on your end. A few links you may want to check out:

Hello,

Thank you for all the replies. Normally I get items in good time, 2 to 3 days just like the priority mail says. I am a usally patient person. That is why I asked people I trust, and who have experience with this, what the recommended course of action should be. Today, July 19, would make just over one week overdue under normal circumstances. Normally if people will be on vacation they post it. I can live with delays. I just like to know in advance.

In my dealing outside ebay when I sell, for example a 1/35 model tank, I e-mail the recipient of the day I shipped and the postal receipt number or delivery confirmation if that is what they like. The distance from this seller to me is less than a day’s drive, not that I intend to go there, I’d lose more in gas money. Some of the other train items that I looked at but did not get have feedback already. I know other people have gotten their items.

I have no desire to stick a dagger in and twist. I am not that kind of person. Inexperienced maybe, vindictive, no. I really just want the situation resolved. For the time being then I will be patient and hope. I will post results when the outcome is reached.

Thank you all for your advice,

Bob

Good thing you dont live in Canada. If I got an item in 3 weeks I would be delighted! Typically it takes between 4-8 depending on customs…

I say be patient. He has a very good rating, and will stand behind what he sold you. I feel as if you are jumping the gun a little bit here…

Log onto eBay and look in the upper right corner of the web page. Click on the “Live Help” icon and when the chat window opens up, tell the rep what’s going on with the transaction and take their advice. I recently had a transaction go sour and I didn’t have to wait 30 days before filing a dispute. I received a full refund from PayPal as advertised.

Hi!

I’m a very active Ebay seller and buyer and have been there, done that. Was the car purchased from an individual that had it in hand, or a dealer that was putting it up for sale before he acquired it from his supplier? I have seen this done on many new items.

I would contact Ebay (check out the website first for instructions) and then Paypal. I don’t believe they will do anything of consequence until 30 days have gone by.

The seller may have a good reason for not returning your emails (sick, out of town, PC down), but that is typically a short term hold. I agree that you should have gotten the car by now, but really it hasn’t been that long. Many times I have thought my purchase would never get here and suddenly its on my doorstep.

I would check out the seller’s feedback again. Read the comments, and determine if he is usually reliable (or not). Also, look for sales made after yours, and see how they were commented upon.

Oh, one last thing… sometimes sellers get in over their head, putting too much on auction that creates a major task for them when sold.

Good luck!

Hi Bob,

I don’t pay for priority mail, unless that is all that the seller offers. There have been several times in the past that I have had Priority Mail packages take 10-15 days to arrive, and I checked the date on the package postage, it was the postal service not the seller, ALMOST every time for me. I have been burned on ebay though. Wait 30 days to file a claim with ebay/Paypal, but DO NOT wait more than 59 days to file (even if the seller is “WORKING WITH YOU” at that point he is working the clock against You) After 60 days You are out of Luck with ebay/Paypal. Wth over 400 ebay purchases, my satisfaction rate is 98-99%, most sellers are great, with his rating I would give the package a little more time.

Good Luck,

Doug

Look in the yellow pages under Collection Services; your looking for a company called WE’REAGONNABREAKAUHEAD!

. . . . . . . . . . and this, my friend, is why I stay a pole’s length away from ebay!

Did any one mention about once you open a dispute, or some action like that, the feedback is no longer accessible. I know I’ve been burned once before on that. If its money you’re worried about, fine … . But if you really want to warn other ebayers… don’t hesitate one bit to hand out a Negative Feedback. And / or … go ahead and wait… file your dispute, I personally can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’m sure all the ebay sellers want to voice their opinion, and all the reasons and wherefor’s. Its pretty simple, if you didn’t recieve the item, and you don’t get reply’s … you first fill out the feedback… then submit your dispute.

You did say…~ NO RESPONSE … corrrect? Give it time yes… that is best… but no response well… only two options … but thats my opinion to that.

Ask for either Vinnie the Snake or Rocko!

George

You could do all three.

But still: whenever a e-bay buyer you be, be prepared to lose your money(!) and/or get ripped off with damaged or inferior goods!

my [2c]

as a e-bayer with a perfect 347 score i strongly advise the folowing. contact p-pal if that is how you paid. while you can not file a dispute for 2 weeks [ NOT 4 ] you can file a statment that says item has yet to be received. pay pal will send note to seller reminding them of there obligation. wait for the 2 weeks to pass and if item is stiill not been received by you advance it to a dispute. at that time you also leave seller with neg feedback. it should take less then a week for you to receive your funds back after dispute is filled. i myself had to do this yesterday with a item i had not received in 10 days after paying through p-pal. seller contacted me last night and said item was sent on the 16th. item was payed for on the 8th. neg feedback will be left wether i receive item soon or not.

give it a little more time, I ordereda few things from canada and they told me to allow time for it to arrive, it did arrive eventually. Another dealer was short on time and I emailed them and they got it out.

give it another week.

Just don’t get huffy, just stay business like.

A lot of the delay is at the border, I think there are 3 guys working on 2 million packages per day, so be a little(or a lot) patient with cross border shopping.
