Loy's toys fuel tank Fuses

Hello All I am hoping that some one may know the size of the two fuses in a loy’s toys fuel station. One is for power in and he other is for power out. I have long ago lost the instructions so have know clue if they are the proper size from maybe a earlier change out. Can someone help? Thanks in advance

Railroad hobbiest I wish to thank you all for your Quick response to my post! I can’t belive that there is not more knowledge of the (Fuel tank) In the early 90’s when I got started in DCC Loy’s was the place to go for parts. This power supply has run trains everyday with out a fuse replacement just trying to be ahead of the game.

what type of fuse ? if its glass ones the size is on the end caps.

Maybe try the phone number on the front cover, and see what you get.

The only thing I have found is on auction sites, so I don’t know if they are still around. There is a Loy’s Toys website, but it seems to deal with full size versions of antiques and collectables, and they are from SC., not CA.

There are some old threads in here that talk about them. Maybe someone still uses one to power their DCC system, and they will chime in.

And like jc suggest, take out a cap and see if it’s marked on the inside.

Never heard of this. I found an old thread that mentioned a 5 amp transformer. No one in the old threads that I saw, has posted here in years.

Sounds like a lot of power. Is this a gas station? What does it actually do that it needs power?

No idea what the device is. A Google search only shows your message.

A different search shows a five amp power trnasformer in these forums. That would tell me an input 120 v fuse and output low voltage fuse. A guess.

Can you post a photo? Model railroader general discussion forum has instructions for posting photos.

I did find some older threads in here, when you Google Loy’s Toys Fuel Tank. You’ll get the same pictures from Worth Point, and you’ll see the threads.

Loy retired and shut down his shop long ago.

The Fuel Tank is a DCC power supply.

The fuse size will be on the end caps. If you want to see if they are correct, ballpark would be a 1/2 amp on the AC input side, and no less than 5 on the output, no more than 6 or so.

I use fast-blow in My control panels:

They are mounted on the left…the black bar. Mounted so they are visible to see if they are blown by sight. I have AC 120v in My control panels.

I have five Loys power supplies aka “Model Train Fuel”. They are all 8 amp units.

The input fuse is a standard 3ag glass fuse 3amp/250V 1/4 in. x 1 1/4in long. You could probably get by with a smaller value just make sure the size is correct by using the AG package. I have purchased spares at the local Auto parts store and keep a 5 pack taped to the top of my supplies.

The output side is protected with a resettable panel mount circuit breaker. I have had to replace at least one of these over the years. Digikey sells a replacement breaker. these are known to occasionally fail and refuse to reset.

The Digikey part number for the 8 amp part is: PB189-ND

This is TYCO Electronics part #W28-XQ1A-8

Digikey also has a 5 amp version part number: P186-ND

Tyco’s part # is: W28-QX1A-5

Last time I purchsed these I got a half dozen as the postage was nearly the same.
