Amazing home made video using ERTL models on HO tracks, has been awarded honours on youtube, there is also a ‘making of’ video in the users profile explaining all the train details.
Someone did some serious modeling work for that! Very imaginative.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing.

rollingstockvid, [#welcome] to the forums.
I have about $1000.00 of old ERTL trains, so I wonder how he converted them to HO scale…
To convert ERTL models to HO was really hit and miss, I did notice that some models were almost HO scale, but others mainly the Thomas character was very narrow.I had to re-work the wheels by placing spacers, and put a little metal sled under the train, it is by no way perfect, and would foul on any points the model encountered.
The youtube users had pointed out to me that N guage fits ERTL, well if that is so it would have saved me heaps of work, I only had HO as this is what I grew up with.
This video was made back in 2000, and its nice that I can share it with train buffs all over the world, I have had a huge responce from the Thomas Tank world clubs, I am not really a train buff, but saying that is like I don’t enjoy breathing, we all like trains, its just some people take deeper breaths.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions, thanks for your support.

Thanks for the welcome,
Just glad to connect with people who like a interesting layout connected to a crazy video.

That’s quite the video! I imagine it took quite a bit of time to produce. Thank you!
Rolling Stock video overall took about 6 months part time to make, I have also posted on youtube a ‘making of’ video, which reveals many little tricks to making the video…

I had to put this video up to answer some of the questions I had e-mailed to me, I do my best to answer all questions raised. Luckily I have two hours of detailed behind the scenes footage to use as material.
Rolling Stock was made 7 years ago, and over that time only 20 people had seen it, with youtube now everyone can see it, so its made me feel better about the time spent on making it. It was a el chepo production costing about A$400, I already had all the HO track.
It was the youtube community which led me to some forums so others could see my strange little video, the push is on to do episode two.

Insurgents on the Island of Sodor?
Jon [8D]
Thats a great title for the next episode…
When I made rolling stock 7 years back mad bombers was not such a dirty word, these days it really has a different context.
I am not a Thomas Tank fan, I just used that type of production to carry my story, and the Thomas fans are asking for a episode 2, your ‘Insurgents on the Island of Sodor’ would be a great name…
Thanks for your time to view quite a long youtube video, its difficult to ask for someones time unless you are really ready to entertain them…
Leo.
I must admit, for an El Cheapo home grown production, I’m very impressed. I, and my 2 year old son, await the next installment.
Brad
The video was not really aimed at kids, but I am glad he can enjoy a very different type of Thomas adventure.
It was a very el chepo production, and believe me sometimes when you start something it just gets bigger and bigger, I wonder if this happen with the real model layouts, and you never really feel youi have enough…
The Thomas fanclub has contacted me, they are very excited that a second episode may happen, and I really think the suggestion made on these boards is the best I have heard…
‘Insurgents on the island of Sodor’…well with a title like that there will be a bombing in every scene…
Thanks for all the support, I will do my best to keep up with replies…
Cheers…Leo…

Thanks for the welcome…
You see many model railway layout videos on youtube, I hope that I can inspire you to getting those realistic shots…
I have put this video up in the section about getting kids interested in railways, hoping that this little tale will make some look with a little more interest.
The video uses ERTL models running on HO track, and believe me it was not a easy job controlling those ERTL models, they have a mind of their own…
Glad I have found a train community which can enjoy my strange video…
